check engine light

I have a 96 E320 and the check engine light came on while driving, the engine was shaking so I pulled over and stop the engine. I started again and engine was fine tho the check engine light is on and it says engine electronics. I drove it home with no problem, just wondering if I needed to have it service right away.I have driven it for 162000 miles already, is there a part that needed servicing at this stage?

The CPS and the K40 relay module come to mind since these do cause intermittent failures. However, either usually stops the engine, at least momentarily, and doesn't just result in rough running.

Have you checked the OBD-II port for codes? It's certain that you have one, although if it is the CPS or the K40, the code won't point directly to it.

Codes indicated P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected.
Replaced ignition coils, spark plugs and wires, air and fuel filter

I knew it was a misfire. If you've washed the engine you probably seeped water down in the spark plug holes which will create random misfires until dealt with(for some reason it wont evaporate). Check the connections on the ignition coils and peel back the wiring harness tape a little to check for breakage in the wires. Otherwise you probably just need a good set of spark plugs and if that's not the case grab a cheap set of china made ignition coils for 100 bux with all the wires and junk. The OEM china made coils I got from ebay are handling over 300hp on my e320 with no problems.
