300E Bad Idle

Wife's 1988 300E occasionally experiences a no-idle problem. Must left-foot brake and maintain revs at 1000 or it dies. Happens intermittantly now, but suspect it may become a permanent condition. Can anyone suggest where the problem is?

possible problem: idle control valve, overvoltage protection realy, fuel pump relay, etc.

it could be several reasons.

Most commonly we see the overvoltage relay, the speed sensor in the rear of the speedo and the air flow housing causing this.

Keep in mind, these are just the things we see often and it could be anything else.

Of the sources Benzmac mentioned, the air flow housing and the OVP can be checked quickly...

How can the OVP be checked? My air flow housing has a hole in it (where it bolts to the car) coould this be causing low idle?
