1986 420SEL: Temp Display Cable Repl.

Hi, I need to replace the cable between the temp sensor behind the bumper and the display module. I looked at getting a cable at a salvage yard, and I could not even get it out of the wad of wires passing through the firewall. I need advice from someone who has done this before I attempt it. I have some experience with my car: I have pulled the instrument cluster before (to install the temp display), for example, but I don't have the experience of having worked on multiple cars so I ask advice of others before attempting something new. Thanks for your advice.
