Not sure exactly what the question is but it's a fuel injected 4.5 liter from a mid-70s 116 chassis, 450SE or 450SEL, the 53,713th one of its type.

Engine Type

Thank you all for your replies. What I am trying to establish is if this engine is an aluminum block 5.0 common to all Mercedes 126 V8 models 1980 to 1991 that start with engine number 117961, 963, ... etc. OR the old 116 model iron block 4.5 liter installed in the 450 series 116 Mercedes cars that would have engine number starting with 116XXXXX?.

?? See the engine number you gave us. If it's a 117, it can't be a 116 too. There never was a 4.5 liter 116 motor - just 3.5, 3.8 and 4.2.
