Hello Everyone. Any '93 300SE Lovers Here?

Hello Everybody. I have a 1993 300SE (Phoebe). I am the third owner and someone has swapped out the original transmission. I had the one in the car rebuilt because it died a few years back. I have yet to see her go into fifth gear. Does anyone else have this issue?

I believe your car has a 4-speed transmission...

Hello Janathan1

She has a five speed. The fifth gear is electronically controlled. I hope that I can find someone that has the tools to read her computer's error log. Perhaps then I can have things reset. Maybe I can discover what is going on here.

You can read the transmission fault codes yourself on pin 10 of the 38 pin diagnostic connector in the engine compartment. You need to build the DIY flash code reader with parts from Radio Shack - try a search.

Does your shifter say "P R N D 4 3 2 1" or "P R N D 3 2" ?

The shifter on a 92 to 96 722.5 would be D - 4 - 3 - 2

She has the 2-3-4 pattern and this model starts off in second as do most cars off this series. First serves as a passing gear.

You have prompted a doubt however. Since one of her prior owners swapped out the transmission, I wonder if the transmission that they installed is the right one for this car. How can I figure this out?

And, by the way, can anyone tell me the criteria for loading a picture of my baby under my name/log in? I see the information about the file size and pixel aspect ratio but nothing about the file type. I have already uploaded two JPG files for my photo album and I was sure that I could do the same for that particular image but I've become frustrated with the idea.

Can someone make this plain for me? Thanks.
