Top-to-bottom play with tire off the ground is usually indicative of a bad ball-joint.

Being the original poster of this thread, I thought I'd let all you people know ( or at least those who care) that the roaring was indeed the right outside wheel bearing. Thus, the worsening of the roar when applying just the slightest pressure on steering to the left. Roar would completely disappear when steering pressure applied to right. Thanks to all who replied to help me with my problem.
