1994 E320 Sedan rear rotors R&R with e-brake
Thanks everyone for the quick replies on the rear suspension.
Now I'm doing the rear brakes and the e-brake is holding fast to the rotor. Is there a trick to it, or can you sometimes just kind of work it off like you might with a regular drum brake? If I have to relieve the cable tension, where is it done? Thanks for any help. Mark |

You are supposed to be able to access the starwheel adjuster through a hole in the brake disk to turn it with a screwdriver to cause the shoes of the e brake to move inward and provide enough clearance to pull the disk.
So says the book. I could not do it with my '95 E300D. I wound up just working the ebrake on and off hard a few times while driving and also braking hard and then pulling the wheel off asap with the disk still hot, and was able to work if off. It was a PITA, but it did come off. Then even with the new disk and the shoes adjusted as far in as I could get, I still had a bit of rub on the new disk while driving. Squeak, squeak, squeak.... But it wore itself out after a few hundred miles of driving. Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300D, 284K |

Thanks Chris. I tried wrenching them off per your suggestion, and they worked off without too much trouble. Didn't need to work the star adjuster, and after brushing and blowing out the dust, the new rotors slipped on nicely. Thank you again for the info.
My brakes are all new MB now, and are they nice! Quiet and outstanding stopping power. Mark |
