92 W124 500E AC Question

While rebuilding my mono wiper, decided to pull apart blower box and check things out. Slight tick in blower motor (as it slows to a halt) does not appear to be anything evident....no debris/leaves etc.

Temp sensor on outside of blower was brittle and fell apart in my hands when removing it....sensor was ok and I believe it works but external case was dried out!

Finally, the fresh air flap seemed to be moving while the fan was on...

Problem is that it is not connected to the vacuum pod that it should be connected to....linkage is missing....see pix...

Any ideas? Salvage yard? DIY?

Is the threaded rod supposed to attact to the ball on the lever?

I wonder if one of those linkages goes to open and close the flap for the blower motor.

See photos in link. Some of them show evap box out of car along with vacuum pods.

Are you sure you are missing some linkage pieces?

Ron,

Thanks for the link....the pix are great! I can't tell from the pix how the linkage is connected. I think something is missing as the two pods connect to an "L" shaped
bracket with a brass ball on it. The flap has a threaded stud....not sure how to connect
them... But the 124 service CD shows diagrams of the flap connected to the linkage but
not in enough detail to help me.

Does anyone know how these connect?

Ron,
Where did you purchase the foam for the flap ? Also, I would be curious to know what type of foam you used to seal the blower box and upper cover....my foam tape is pretty much dry rotted or turning to goo.

Right now I can not recall what exactly I use or where I bought it; it might have been something I had laying around. If I do remember I'll post.

I do recall the material was self adhesive on one side. I used a piece to cover the entire door as if it were square and then used a razor knife to cut the excess off. I figured that was easier to do than to try and pre-cut the piece.

I also remember the material was pretty much weather resistant.

The purpose of that material is the muffle the sound of the door opening and closing, so you do not have to hear it snap shut.

You are right. There is a liitle black ball socket that threads on there. About two inches long. You have to turn on recirculation and let lever move in place. Then thread it on and connect. Not too hard. I noticed my recirculation flap closes and opens real slow.

Ahh these problems are time less.
