Starter solenoid is probably sticking. Might be a sign that its tired. How many miles on the car/is the starter original? Try smacking the small canister on top of the starter with something sturdy....it might free it up.

Your shift linkage bushings are shot.

There are two on the linkage from the bottom of the shift lever, and at the transmission.

Cheap, and easy to change.

That sounds right to me too. Because the shifter bushings are worn and sloppy, the shifter is not engaging the neutral safety switch properly, therefore it won't make the circuit that activates the starter. just my two cents for what it's worth. No ghosts, no magic, just pure logic

thanks for the info. update. it only starts in the mornng when i hold key to the start position and move the shifter from part to drive and hold on neurtal ..IT STARTS, and usually thru the day it will start while in the park position without going thru the rigamaroe. Do you think it is that little thing in the consul with two wires attached to it?

Yabass, You need to lay off the caffeine.

Jim already gave you the answer. Shifter bushings. Read gear-head's post again. The explanation is there.
