Pre-Safe Error on 2003 S500

From time to time I get a Pre-Safe Unavailable error on the display. This usually happens when starting from a stop. I hear a noise and feel a jerk in the car like a hard gearshift. The car continues to drive, but it does not shift gears. It seems to me that it stays in 3rd gear. If I stop turnoff the engine and restart the problem goes away.

I will appreciate any ideas on what to look for.

Smile

Finally took it to the dealer. It was the conductor plate in the transmission. Total cost was $650.

Those new cars are not cheap to maintain!

I found an entire low miles engine for less $$ than that....
