Timing chain tensioner in my 190e 2.3
Need to ask the best & brightest.
I was wondering if it has right amount of tension? As book and few talked about them here, when u remove u expect a high tension spring to fired across, mines didnt do very much. Would my tensioner's spring has expired by now or spring weakened? They also say its going to be difficult to scre it back so wonder. Now the chain kind of rattles too, making clack clack noise , would the chain be not tight enough? TIA

If your tensioner is located on the outside of the left side of the engine block & can be removed from that side, be careful when you reinstall to first put piece by piece in. DO NOT ASSEMBLE TENSIONER OUTSIDE OF ENGINE & PUT IN.
Posts describe breaking camshaft when this procedure is done. Must reassemble the tensioner 1 piece at a time into the engine block. Otherwise the pressure on the chain will transfer to your camshaft & break it. When I reassembled mine (inline 6, M104 engine) I noticed that the old spring was shorter than the replacement one (indicating that the spring had lost its ability to exert pressure on the tensioner). Be careful! |
