New 560SEC; one spring has a clamp on it

Today I was putting european lights on my 'new' 560SEC, and I noticed that one of my front springs has some kind of clamp on it, yet the other does not (the passengers spring has this). My thought is to take it off, but can anyone think of any reason why it would be there?

Thanks,
Bryce

It's there to lower that side of the car....the clamp compresses the spring making it shorter...
Previous owner probably installed it ?

Does your car sit level in the front ?

It seems to... but surely if you're going to lower the car, you would do both sides together?

Yeah, it seems like it would appear lopsided with the clamp only on one side. How much did the previous owner/driver weigh?

Don't remove it. perhaps the spring was replaced at one time and it is not the same height(unsprung ) as the original on the other side. so to compensate for thatit has the clamp on it.

although what is on your spring looks odd, if it works well for the car then just leave it. Then when it comes time for you to do a front end rebuild, just put new springs & shocks on the vehicle

Guessing that side broke in the past and only that one spring was replaced resulting in uneven ride height.

Yeah seems like it makes sense to leave it. Next time the car is in the shop i'll have it looked at.. the ride from the car is much harsher than I expect and maybe this has something to do with it.

I would probably remove it. I would think it might create a stress and cause the spring to break.

If taking it off makes the car ride lopsided, you can put a rubber spacer in the other side.
