Smile 1990 300 SE Fault Code

I am new to the forum. I have a 1990 300SE M103 engine car. 117,000 miles. Check Engine Light came on yesterday. Thanks to this forum I have figured out how to read fault codes by the little black box in the engine room! I have been unable to use the search to find the list of fault codes for my car. What is a 17 blink code indicating? Thanks!

Thanks, does this indicate I need a new O2 sensor? Is there a DIY about replacing that piecon on my car? The car has been running perfectly and getting 20 MPG. It it possible that this is a "Replace at a certain mileage" issue? Or doen that code mean the sensor is malfunctioning? Thanks for the help!

I have searched oxygen sensor, ox sensor, o2 sensor, fault code, faulty oxygen sensor, and about 10 other permutations and gotten 1000 results , none that addressed the issue of a 17 ping fault code on a 1990 300se. I am probably too ignorant to correctly use the search function. But I can't find the information that I need. The good news is that I am intelligent enough to follow the directions for the code reader/reset system and cleared the 17 blink code and check engine light is now off.

Code 17 has nothing to do with a Ping...it is a shorted to ground sensor code.

Wink

The Intelligent move would be to find out WHY your CE/Diagnostics Module has detected a FAULT...not to just clear it.... A CE lamp is a WARNING to you that there is a Fault......... Clearing a stored fault code doe not FIX anything...........

1. I used Search and found a list of blink/fault codes. The author of the post with this list indicated that he was not sure that it applied to W126 cars. This is why I was looking for a confirmation what a 17 blink code means . 2. After reading many posts on this forum about various FAULT codes found after a CE light being on, it is apparent that the experience of many owners is that after clearing the code, the problem never repeats itself. 3. The intelligent move is to find out WHY my CE/Diagnostics Module has detected a FAULT. That is why I asked for HELP interpreting the 17 blink code for my model car and what the meaning of that FAULT is . If you think my question is frivolous or not worthy of your consideration, then just don't get involved.

In my attempt to HELP you , I told you twice what it means...my first post told you it was an 02 code , and my follow-up post told you that code indicates a shorted to ground 02 sensor.

But excuse my postings and I will not get involved. And not b/c your question was at all frivolous..............if your post was frivolous, I would not have answered it to begin with...........................................

A. Dalton, thanks for confirming that the code is an O2 sensor fault code. I was not sure that the 17 blink reading was for my model and year car.Would the solution be to install a new o2 sensor, or is this a code that is often not actually caused by a faulty o2 sensor?

Start with the O2 sensor. Only other possibilities are the wires or the computer. So, start with a new sensor.

I'll replace the o2 sensor. I am leaving on a business trip for about a month so I will do it when I return. The car will be sitting, so no big deal.
