stalling at a stop light

Well after going on a test drive i found that the car still stalls when im sitting at a stop light, temperature is around 100 and the idle speed is irregular. When the car dies i can start it back up with no problems. Other than that the car drives very good. i noticed the fans didnt turn on ether. Is this a safety feature built in for the car to prevent damage or is this a malfunctioning part?

after looking at some tsbs on this problem im gonna check the OVP, eha and speed signal from speedo to the ecu. Anyone have this problem before and what solved it?

car is 1991 190E 2.6

thanks

There's any number of issues that can cause this.

Check for:

1) Vacuum leaks. Especially in breather and idle air hoses.
2) Idle air valve issues. Make sure it works. Test it with a 9v battery.
3) Fuel pressure issues. Pump, filter are all suspects.
4) OVP relay is possible too, but vacuum leaks more common.
5) Cap, rotor, wires, plugs should all be checked.

Start with those. You will probably find the issue.

Electric fans are temperature controlled. There is a thermostat that causes them to come on. They should come on if you are sitting at idle and it is hot outside. Turning on the A/C should make them come on fairly quickly. If not, check out the fuse and the fan thermostat.
