W124 blower motor regulator - electronic component?

I'm in the position that I need to replace the blower regulator for my 1992 W124 (no cabin filter).

In looking around at blower regulators it appears (in the pictures at least) that the actual electronic component may be shared by other regulators as well?

I didn't find anything on this in a search.

Anyone know if the actual electronic component from another model works on a W124 (possibly with a swap of connectors)? I have spare heat sinks and a machine shop so could easily modify the mounting if this would work. What I don't have is access to any more recent parts to try to cross check the actual electronic component?

Thanks
Paul

I'm pretty sure you can't sub anything in for the original unit. Also be mindful in that there are two different regulators, one for cars with dust filters and one for cars without..

Have fun with that job, not one of my favorites

Yes - I know the fan works, I've done the repair before.

I did receive an email that indicated a W126 part would work.

The pictures I find on line show look like the electronic component on the new ones looks the same as the one used on a 93 S class (and similar). These look like they can be found for ~$125 or even ~80 on evilpay, you would then have to attach it to your old heatsink and change connectors. Neither of those things is a big deal but I wanted to know about the actual component.

I have found a used 124 regulator for $60 which is my solution for now.

I do have spare heat sinks and questionable motors sitting around (meaning they will spin up if wired directly to 12V, if someone has a used/spare S class regulator to experiment with I'll give it a try and report back.
