Thanks MICHAEL for the 1st place trophy from STARFEST!

We received our 1st place trophy from the flawless performance of Michael. For that, we at MB Autowerks and MercedesShop.com say thanks.

The trophy looks great behind lock and key in our display case.

How many shops and how many people have a First Place win at Starfest in the acceleration run on the first try out?

Hmmmmmm, I'm looking at next year.

Pics to come.

Congratulations!

Is the Starfest first place award a Performance based award?

Is this given for the best acceleration time?

Yes!
Our car did the 1/4 mile in 12.7 secs.

In addition to the 1st place in the acceleration run we took 2nd in the autocross and 3rd in the road race.

Michael came home with 3 trophies!

Thumbs up Dreaming of?

14" wide slicks to help that beast hook up! Next time, I'm bringing my own supply of that goo they spray on the track

And to Bill & Donnie, Thanks for giving me the opportunity to bring home the trophies !

In the interest of clarity, my 1st, 2nd & 3rd places were in class (modified); I think I was 10th overall in the autocross (SLK 32 AMGs & C32s ruled the event, and there were a LOT of them) and 5th or 6th on the road course.

But in the 1/4 mile, I was 1st in class and 1st overall

Apparently I haven't been paying attention. What kind of car are we talking about here?

2001 CLK 55 AMG with a KLEEMANN Kompressor system, boosting HP from 349 to 560+. Almost more power than you can use. Almost.

Only car I've ever driven with "adequate" horsepower (yes, I'm ill )

That's what I thought...

I didn't see it listed in your signature so I was a little confused.

I road with Michael Curcio on the dragstrip at Indianapolis Raceway Park. I had to roll the window up to keep the smoke from the tires out. What awesome acceleration!

I haven't had so much fun since college days when, with my suitemates, we'd cruise the back roads at 145 mph in a GTO, a 396 SS, and a Corvette with redline tires - a set was good for about 3,000 mi.

Cruising at 60 mph and nail the Kleeman CLK 55 ... you are glued to the seat back and the car just flies and it is civilized like you'd expect from a Mercedes.

Happy to oblige, Robby

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did!

DONNIE -- MB Autowerk Polos (?)

Awesome! Congratulations!

DONNIE -- As a side note, it doesn't seem we're getting anywhere with mercedesshop.com "paraphenalia". I was wondering if you folks at MB Autowerks have gotten embroidered polos for your employees? More importantly, how hard would it be for someone like me to order one? Free advertising (even tho' I live in California). Just a thought -- and I AM serious about purchasing if they're available.

Thanks!

I was there.....

It is true. We had to wait for the SMOKE TO CLEAR before we could run after the CLK55K.

I wonder if you bothered to return the tires, or did they just hit the dumpster at IRP? :-)

Mike, is quite a character and a very good driver. Especially not knowing much about the car. Which is impressive in itself.

The Kleemann CLK55 accelerates with authority and docility no Corvette will ever have. I don't miss my 1999 Hardtop since owning the C32.

When Mike and I staged in the photo below(thanks to Frank Barrett of STAR) I pulled up and prestaged, then waited...and waited...it had to be a good 10-15 seconds before Mike came to the line. Here the windows/vents were open after his tire smoking burn out and he could not see.

His 12.7 @ 110 MPH beat my best for the evening a second. Though I had him at half track, silver bullet looked like a freight train going by the last half of the track.

Nice article in STAR Robbie!
