'95 E320 miss at idle / EGR?

I have reset the codes, only one that comes back is the pin4 EGR code (5).

Using the mityvac, no vacuum leaks. Applying vacuum to the EGR valve doesn't change the idle, but releasing the vacuum will make it slap shut as previous posts suggest it should.

So is it not closing all of the way, or clogged and not opening? Only way to tell R&R?

Egr tube is plugged on the head end.
Common 104 HFM fault. But not a misfire @ idle cause.............

Thank you Arthur.

I'd like to add that I expected to find a problem at the exhaust, removed the exhaust-side tube and EGR valve and found them to be clear and operational. Re-installed believing that the exhaust end would be the clogged end, ... so thanks to your link I'll be removing it again and snaking the intake-end EGR tube. Hopefully this will clear my CEL code 5.

The other code I'm reading is pin 14, code 11: "Closed throttle recognition signal to engine control module (HFM-SFI or Left LH-SFI) Fuel safety shut-off to engine control module (HFM-SFI or left or right LH-SFI).

Any ideas on this code or whether it can be causing my idle-misfire? The closed-throttle switch seems to be buried, I can hear it click, but haven't yet found it ('95 non-ASR).

I'm finding subtle differences between the '94 and '95, such as the pre-cats on the '95. I haven't yet found the differences in the FSM.

Clearing the tube is a temp fix..they have a re-designed tube that is the remedy.
Code 11 0n 14 could be a sticking cable or not enough slack @ idle position .. ..they want at least 1/4"..back the adjuster off , clean/lube cable, and clear the codes ..see if it returns
First suspect of DIS ignition misfires @ idle are the plug connector/resistors under each coil. [ or Plats]

I replaced the coils, plug wires, and plugs. OE/Bosch/NGK Copper. No change.

The (code 11, pin 14, probably what you meant though) cable is allowing the throttle assembly to return to rest reliably, with a little cable slack.

Any idea how to access / test the switch? I can't even find it, and the FSM CDs don't seem to have the HFM in it.

Plug change and plug wires do not address Coil to Plug connectors.

On the code 11 , if you lift the throttle from under the hood [vs using the gas pedal in cabin], the EA module will bring up athecode 11.
So, clear that code and see if it comes up again..if YES , then the switch contacts are suspect. I will get your schematic up and tell you which pins to test.

Yes, the "stubbies" were also replaced, pretty much the first thing I do when I buy (yet another) E320 (along with fluids and filters) is the ignition wire/connector set and new copper NGKs. I'm thinking fuel-pressure might be the next test, purge valve is closing properly, all vacuum lines are tested/good, MAS is clean, ... might also be a temperature sensor but wouldn't I get an out-of-range error from running too lean/rich due to an out-of-spec temp sensor? Should I test the intake-air temp sensor and coolant-temp or am I "jumping the gun" here?

Oh, and the code 11 I found in about an hour's forum searching has been covered before as possibly from running the throttle from the engine compartment, which I might have done, not sure, as you posted above so we'll see if it comes back. I thought that was only the ASR version, guess not eh?

See if the MAF is clean and clean the AIT sensor...also check the FP and regulator.

I have the test for N4/1 module pins to both the fuel shut off and CTP sw, but wait til youo see if it comes back first b/c it is an entailed test.

The regulator vac-tube is clean, but I haven't tested pressure yet. MAF is clean, AIT is a little oily, will clean also. Thanks.

Cured my EGR code problem, the tube was blocked, used the speedo-cable reamer method which took some patience to clear the tube, 37-1/2" of cable was the magic length to not go too far.

That is a temp fix ..the remedy is to use the new modified tube/part.

Is the modified part the tube that protrudes further into the intake? I have that already, was a lot of carbon in it / fully clogged. Different change?
