Parts gurus: can I get a part number if I give you the VIN#?

I need to purchase a new or refurbished Climate/AC Control Unit for my 1997 C280. Thing is, I've been told I need to have the part number from the old part before I order the new part. (Something about possible mid-year changes.)

I'd like to buy the part now, but I will not be near the car for days.

So, can anyone here look up a part number if I give the VIN#? I've called a few dealers and they refuse to do it for me.

Thank you.

Yep, but I've already paid for my access and was suggesting that I could help, which I've done.

IIRC, the MB EPC is free for the first year and ~$25 annually thereafter. It is VERY worth the effort to get it. Any MB, any part, it's there.

I found that I can look at a car to get a part number then enter the part number into their search engine and then find out what other vehicles have it. Makes it much easier to get what I want at the local salvage yards.

Nope, its free for USA car access. I'm on my 2nd free renewal as of a few days ago. No fee. $12 a year to access "world cars".......otherwise free. My first year I paid like $14 or whatever it was, but the two years since have been free.

OK, I must have paid the $12 to access the "world cars". I like being able to look at *all* the models.

Thanks,
Mike

Yeah, it's a nice tool. I just wish it had a "click here to replace your old part with this one" button.
