What we're talking about is shaving a couple of millimeters off the actuator pin, or putting a washer under the bi-metal strip to raise it a couple millimeters. A 2mm reduction in the inserted depth of the actuator pin, either by raising the bi-metal strip or by shortening the pin itself, is good on the OEM sachs clutches for around a 10c reduction in engagement temp. The high-rpm cutoff still works as it should, as does the rest of the clutch.

The only thing you're changing is the engagement temp. Certainly nothing unsafe about it, and you're not "locking" the fan, it still engages and disengages as it should, just at a lower temperature. The factory setting is around 100c, so by the time the fan is fully engaged the car is already running hot. Lowering it helps your operating temps, as well as your a/c performance.
My fan clutch has a cover shield on the front so if something comes off it catches it. The sahch I got has no cover & has that plrectangular plate over is so if that comes loose there would be a problem.

Wonder if I can get a cover installed for it.

I'm confused about clutch function but maybe I have a different clutch as its a euro...but my fan always is on but it does change speed. Would a regular sachs clutch not run the fan until it got to 100C that seems bad as I want the engine to run close to 80 as possible
mine runs 85 90 on good days & can hot 100 but comes down quickly so fan is working.

I got a behr on the car but can't see part #

I understand sachs is better & I picked up a used one & want to install it
once I figure the water pump pully turning as mine as no hole behind it to lock the pulley to take the fanclutch off.

Both my clutches turn a little
less than a fin but I think the sachs is a bit more resistance

any advice?
