W201, window up to stop, then...click, click, click???

On my new (to me) '85 190D, all the windows power up and down just fine, but on the passenger side front window, when it gets all the way up, the motor doesn't stop like it should but continues "click, click, click" as long as you press the button.

I've gotten better and can stop it after two clicks, sometimes one if I'm lucky, but something's not right. Sounds like gears not meshing. Any idea how to fix? Works fine now, but I'm expecting it to fail sometime, or wear out the gears.

Thanks for any insight.

Sounds like a missing tooth on the window regulator.

Thanks. I'm going to the junkyard this afternoon and will take a look for a window regulator.

Could also be the motor, the motor's gear became loose on my daughter's 124 (same design) and only hit half the tooth, slipping when it hit enough resistance.

The very end of the gear section on the regulator wears out b/c guys hold the button long after the window is up...very common on the older chassis.

Extremely common on smoker cars, they open the window a crack to use the world as their ashtray, close it again, open it a crack to smoke, .... lots of wear in that last inch of travel.
