2-3 Shift Flare 93 300CE
Ive got a flare when shifting from 2nd to 3rd in my transmission. The 3rd gear catches into gear for a millesecond, slips out of gear, revs up, and then i feel it catch again and then the tachometer goes back down.
I get this issue if I manually shift from 2nd to 3rd as well, so i know that does rule out some culprits. No other gears have this issue and shift pretty well. I have a code 26 for a upshift delay, which im told will not affect this condition. I reset the code and the code has yet to come back up for a day. The flare is more severe at higher acceleration and still noticeable at slow acceleration Thanks for reading, James Last edited by jlostlen; 06-08-2009 at 11:42 PM. |

Weird thing is that my aunt has driven the car like this for 20k miles and said that the previous owner told her about it, so its been a long occuring issue...
Ive been reading abot some older models that have a blue flying suacer shaped unit that allows an adjustment in the shifting, Do I have one of these or any kind of adjustment? Also, I have read of spring kits K1 spring kit fixing the problem, which was accessed from the drain pan on the transmission... Can I do this with my car? |

If you have the 722.3 tranny then it could be:
1-check vacuum line from intake manifold to vacuum unit on tranny for restrictions 2-check whether you have a temperature restrictor installed 3-teflon ring on front cover, repair K1 clutch

There is a kit from MB to help 2-3 flares on .3 126 270 4477
You can access and do the swap w/ the VB in the car. You can adjust the modulator...it's limited some, but you can pop off the plastic bit and dial in more pressure as such. When was the trans serviced last? Jonathan

Jonathon,
Thank you, after posting I read forums another hour and found that the K1 spring replacement has solved many others 2-3 shift flare. I have ordered one from MB and I will put it in and post results. Thanks for the part number, I have confirmed that is the part I ordered. They do not have a description for it in their catolog anymore, just a part number and price in their sales database. |
