Question Confirm my diagnosis

'92 300SE.

Losing coolant slowly. (1/2" per day from reservior)

New headgasket 9,000 miles/1 year ago. No coolant loss from May of last year to May of this year.

All new hoses. No signs of drips anywhere.

However, start the car and you can smell coolant. Cut the car off, even when hot (100C on the gauge after sitting briefly after exiting freeway in 100+F temps - runs at 85C when in motion, regardless of outside temp). Let the car sit for 5 minutes - no drips, and no smell. Start the car again, and you can smell coolant.

I'm thinking (and have ordered) a new radiator. I believe there's probably a small leak in the core that's slow enough that the airflow scatters the water before it can drip, and that's also why you smell coolant so quickly when you start the car, but not at all once the car has sit for 5 or so minutes.

Hope I'm right - the radiator is $480.
