We used to give them a few months more life by cleaning them with TV tuner cleaner once available at Radio Shack. I guess there is some similar electronics spray out there now.

What is the problem with it? If it just make static when it is turned, then kill the car and turn the pot lock to lock 20 or 30 times.

If it is dead then as they say, just take it out, determine the value and get another one from an electronics supply store, don't get one from Radio Shack. Theirs are junk.

What head unit do you have?

The volume and other controls on modern radios are normally an electronic device and not the old time turning wire-wound or carbon "potentiometer".

I have the bose head or Factory.

I believe it is the DRY POTENTIOMETER so spraying fluid into it would not serve any purpose other gumming it up.

I have seen that some people have taken it apart only to have it fail in short order
