Where is the fresh air door in a w126?

Where is the door that allows fresh air to come into the climate control vent system in a 1984 500SEL? I know that the recirc door is behind the glove box, but I think my fresh air door is broken or something and I want to check it out. If possible, could you explain its location using a diagram or something? Thanks.

Aren't the fresh air door and recirc door one and the same on the W126?

Yes, fresh air & recric doors are indeed the same thing, above the blower motor behind the glove box.

IF you want to see if they are working?? remove the glove box, start the engine, select "min" & depress the center button. Then press the "ec" button to see if the door opens, if not press the center button again to see if the doors close.

If not you have a vacuum problem.

So are you saying that fresh air and recirculated air come in through the same door?? I don't get how that would work. When I depress the recirc button, I see the door open correctly, but I feel like when it is closed there is no fresh air coming in, because the air feels musty. It almost feels like I have to be driving over 30mph for fresh air to come into the cabin. Do you know what could be causing this?

The door has 2 positions. In the "up" position it closes off the passageway to fresh (outside) air; that is recirculate mode. In the "down" position you get fresh air.

So is the hole where the fresh air comes in directly behind the recirculate door? I think it might be clogged or something so I want to check it out.
