Question 91 300CE Torque Converter??

I had my transmission rebuilt less than a year ago, and now its giving me troubles again with less than 8,000 miles on the rebuild...The symptoms are similar to first gear slipping...I'm getting some bucking, high rpms, low power.

The problem seems very bad when the car is COLD...Once it heats up the problems almost dissappear...Does my car have a torque converter? Could that be the problem instead of the tranny? I just don't want to believe the tranny could be slipping after it was just rebuilt and working so perfectly...please advise

Thanks, David

Yes it does have a torque converter and yes the issues actually do sound more like an issue with that rather than the transmission. A trans shop could probably test it and tell you for sure. Did the trans come with warranty? Most rebuilds do....I'd have the shop check it out.

Thanks for the info...I'm starting to feel a little better...Does anyone know how much a torque converter costs about? Just trying to get a rough idea....

A used one can probably be had for less than $100.....a rebuilt one is probably around $400-500

MB torque converters are really strong though, I'd check to make sure that's the problem...

Sounds like possibly a hydraulic pressure problem.

Does it only affect 1st gear and low-rpm starts? If it is the TC, it will affect all gears and you'll have elevated RPM on the freeway.

Was the front pump replaced at rebuild?

Check the fluid level first....it will come up when hot , so it may be too low when cold.
