560sl fuel strainer cleaning
I finally got my 89 560sl running but it dies after running 5 to 10 minutes. Starts and runs great then the fuel pumps starting getting louder and louder until the car quits. Just put in 2 new fuel pumps and the same thing happens. Fuel filter is from last year so i'm guessing it's still good. 5 fresh gal of fuel in the tank. I'm guessing the fuel strainer in the tank could be clogged. When I siphoned the tank the hose I used had a little rust residue on it when I pulled it out. Anything else I should be checking?
Anyone know how to take it out and clean it without taking out the tank? I can see it from under the car but it's kinda tight. I don't know if there is enough clearance from a piece of metal. |

Yes, the strainer can be removed. It will be destroyed in the proccess most likely. I recall that the replacement is not expensive. Best repair is to remove the tank and flush it.

Will the strainer be destroyed because of the tight space? I ordered another one but will it get trashed too when trying to install it?

You may want to have the hose that threads into the strainer also. They both get brutalized in the process.
