I get 20mpg highway. With that many miles,i would plan on putting some bucks into it. BTW: I would not pay that much for that car. I would make an offer of 2,000.00 and go from there.

$2400USD - that's probably in range for a clean W126. Interior looks good - Love the RHD that would be a trip here.

Well i bought it. It was no where near as nice inside as the photos suggest, the dash is cracked, the interior is dirty looking, the sun roof don't work, the rear suspension is a little bouncy but not undrivable, there is a little rust below the rear window on rhs, and the engine is not idling well mainly when in gear. But it drives quite well, no knocks in the suspension, the trans changes smoothly, the aircon works and has been converted to R134a professionally, the exterior is very straight except for a small scratch on the left rear door, the bonnet emblem has been broken off as has one of the headlamp wipers.
I got it for $2000 australian, some will say iam mad but it was it was like a lost dog that needed a home. And even if it fails in some major way i can use the brakes on my W123 300d and wreck and sell off the parts on ebay,, but at this stage i think it is a viable project.

I noticed the cracked dash right away...that would have turned me off on the car immediately...but then again I'm awfully picky.

Greenbushy, have you owned M-B cars before? I have an identical 420SEL, and I had never owned a Mercedes before. I am very impressed with the quality, and feel it is a car that is really worth fixing up. I bought mine for only $500 because it didn't run and the owner had to get rid of it, but except for a clogged fuel distributor it was in pretty good condition. It has really been a learning experience, but I'm enjoying it. Just keep after it, and you will have a beautiful driver!

can you tell me about the clogged fuel distributor?

The symptom was that the car wouldn't start, and when you removed the plugs you found that the injectors were squirting all the time; and when you cracked the fuel line at the fuel distributor output, it was getting fuel all the time.

I am sure you've seen how, if gas is left to evaporate in a carburetor when it has been sitting for a long time, it leaves behind a really cruddy residue. I assume the same kind of thing was in my old fuel distributor. I bought a rebuilt one on an exchange basis. Probably the hardest part of replacing it was setting up the initial fuel mixture on the new fuel distributor.
