Preparing for Emissions Inspection!

The State of Maryland allows one little opportunity to avoid taxation/frustration.

After owning the 1988 560SL less than three months I received my notice for emissions inspection.

I would appreciate any tips or things to do to help insure that I get passed the first time.

Any ideas welcome! All help appreciated!

it's been covered a few times - plugs, air filter, oil change, techron and make sure it's well warmed up before you go for inspection...

Ditto the above. A lot of people also suggest a good 15 to 30 minute drive, I prefer a 1 to 1.5 hour drive before entering the smog check. This allow the cat to get good and hot and operate properly (helps if the cat is on one fo it's final lives too), also allows for a little bit of "wait" time before your car gets into the bay.

PS: What happened to the rest of your posts Tom? I thought you were up to 50 or 60 posts.

Thumbs down Thanks!

I've done all that was mentioned except ?techron?

Mike: I deleted all of my posts as many of the questions seemed to attract negative responses and after reviewing them, I decided that unless I have something to contribute that is worthwhile I had better not Post anything.

I didn't think anyone would notice!

I generally check the archives in depth before I Post but obviously I don't check it thoroughly. Thought I did?

My Posts on Zaino seemed to be a bit too slanted and the Meguiars sponsorship on the Board may take umbrage with my content!

What I will do in the future is Post a question wait a few days and then delete it!

I'll admit I haven't seen all of your posts, but the ones I have seen have been valid questions as have a large portion of the responses. The bad thing about deleting the posts is that that action deprives the archives of information that may be valuable to others.

Perhaps one of your questions was the only one of a similar nature, particular to your model. Among the responses might be the exact cure. Next time that problem is searched, the answer is found and the problem is fixed by the simple act of doing a search, something lost if the post is deleted.

Not busting your chops, just passing on my thoughts.

Techron.... it's a fuel additive that can be purchased at most any auto parts store, and of course any Chevron Gas station. I've had great results with it as have other members. If you do use it, I would suggest using it in the gas tank BEFORE you change the oil.
Also, as others said, make sure the car is very warmed up... a little hard driving (IE: a few full throttle starts from 1st through 2nd gear, on approved 55 mph road, of course ought to be good enough) to blow out some carbon build-up has been recommended also.

GOOD LUCK!!
