W210 Steering Damper

I have a 97 E300D with 103K on it.
I just changed the 722.6 tranny fluid, and when I was down there, I found my Damper (5c ) on the R & P was leaking. Can you simply install new seals on this unit? Is there a sticky on this or a DIY. IS this a common issue on the W210?

Better question

In looking at the drawing in the above post, You can see the o-rings.
I got this pic from Alldata.
I could not locate the part number or the torque spec of the Start bolt head.
The Ru. EPC does not >to my surfing experience> break down this area.

Does anybody on this form have the DVD for the W210? Is the part broken down on the DVD?
Is it on the factory EPC

Regards,
Bill

Why don't you look at M-B's EPC?

Im not

Fimilar with M-B EPC.
I jumped around the site a bit,
Do you have to be a member?
Like 3K a year or 20 per day?
Or am I missing a free link?
Can you down load documents for your entire 300k parts or your entire BOM (bill of materials) in that 24 hour period?

thanks,

Bill

I must have been in a link for indie shop owners, that seemed expensive.

Very cool!!!

Thanks Matt.

iT

HAD all the same drawings regarding the steering gear as the Ru site. Except I could read the english. None of which broke down the steering gear
The only drawings were bolts holding the unit to the frame.
The was a note however, that said there may be a rebuild kit consider rebuilding , rather than replacement.
No links just a note with a dead end.

If you go on the site for your car, can you actually see the rack and pinion broken down?

I'll be watching this thread to see where it goes. I get an occasional clunk from my rack and I'm suspecting it's just normal wear (180K miles). But I would like to know what makes it tick. It would be nice if there was a way to eliminate the slop like there was on the old steering gearboxes. And yes, I'd also like to understand how the damper (if any) works.

Where was the free EPC link?
