Is there any harm in leaving idle control valve disconnected (w124)?

Any long term damage to be done? I've had a high idle problem with my car since I bought it. I swapped in a used part over the weekend with no change. It would idle close to 2K in park, and drop a little when in drive. Once I ran the car with the partdisconected, the idle seems to be around 800. Do you guys think there would be any harm in leaving it disconnected? Thanks.

Less harm than leaving it connected at 2k shifts into gear.
