86 300SDL: Window motor armature/gear removal?

My driver's side front window motor stopped working. It's getting voltage but no sound from the motor. I've got the motor cover off and the armature is rusted, but I think it'll work after cleaning. The part I can't get is how to remove the whole armature/worm gear without taking the whole gear box off the window regulator? I turned the armature as far as she'll go either way until the regulator pops at the end of its track but still won't come off. I could swear I remember reading guys were able to get the worm gear out without taking the whole gear housing off the track. I searched but can't find it now. How do I get the whole armature/worm gear out of the gear housing? Thanks.

Remove the regulator/motor from the door.

Remove motor/gearbox from regulator.

Remove the cover of the gearbox.

Remove the gear.

Remove the two screws to separate the motor from the gearbox.

Remove motor.

At least that's how I remember it....

I'm thinking you're right, Jim. I just blew another hour trying to see if I missed something. I think the brushes are shot..... well, I hope that's it! Looks like this'll have to wait until Friday. Thanks Jim.
