2004 E320 water pump pulley wobble (need help with fix asap) MI
ive got a 2004 E320 with approximately 59k. there is a major wobble and noise coming from the water pump pulley. is the water pump shot?
i have this week off and would like the part replaced, can anyone near me replace it for me? i can help but dont have the confidence and i lack the skills to do it myself and dont want to go to the dealer. im near Birmingham MI and have a garage. should i get the timing belt done as well at the same time? |

Yes, the bearing for the water pump is shot. Your car doesn't have a timing belt, you may mean engine belt, which in case, if its cracking then yes I would replace it when you do the water pump.

i didnt know these motors had a timing chain. anyways, the engine belt says "made in spain" on it and i dont think its been ever replaced. it has about 59k on it.
do you know if its fairly easy to replace? if its a matter of releasing tension off of a tension pulley to get access to the water pump, i may tackle it myself. any help is immensely appreciated. Last edited by BulletHead; 10-20-2009 at 02:07 PM. |

Recommend replacing the accessory belt and buying a reconditioned water pump from your local MB dealer. A reconditioned water pump should be more reasonably priced than a new one, but compare the prices of both. Have never replaced a water pump on a V6 engine so I don't know how difficult it will be for a DIY'er.
