Timing chain 92400E

Hey guys. Thanks for reading my post. I have a 92 400E which has the original timing chain. When do I need to replace it, and I guess the tensioner and is it a DIYS job ans what is involved? Thanks.
Brian

I'd suggest every 120,000 miles. It's the number I've seen around here anyway. It probably will last much longer than that. Mine went to 218,000 before breaking. Don't let yours break. Change the guides as well.

BTW.

I've seen a couple of posts tonight that suggest changing the tensioner. Are there different types? The automatic spring fed tensioner I have on my M103 motor seems like it should outlast all other parts of the car.

Do you mean the M119 engine? There isn't a 4.2L M116 engine.

Sure there is. The 86-91 420SEL has the 4.2l M116.

Sorry, I was looking in the Performance Products 124 catalog and it wasn't in there. I guess I assumed that all 4.2L were the same......Something I still need to learn.............never assume.
