Advice on converting to fuel injection m110 280

I have a 1976 280 (w114) with the carbureted 110.922 engine. I would like to convert it to fuel injection. I noticed that the 280 einspritz engines are 110.985. The question: is it just a matter of swapping out the carbureted intake manifold to the injected manifold plus the control module, or is it more involved? Is the fuel injected head different from the carbureted? I'd prefer to keep my engine because it is very healthy as opposed to swapping engines completely. Any advice is appreciated!

I did the same thing to my 76 280S more than 20 years ago.

The heads are different due to the fact that the injectors mount into the head and not the manifold. The carbed M110 heads are not machined for injectors unless you are lucky and the head has been replaced in which case a common one is supplied with plugs where the injectors would go.

With the W114, space might be tight for the intake manifold (not a problem with the W116). I was going to do the same with a 74 280 but ended up selling the car before I got into it.

Fuel lines will be different as the CIS runs at a high pressure and you will need the electric pump and associated items that mount near the tank.

Check out the Performance section and you will find lots of information on improving the M110. I wish now that I would have gone a step further at the time and put high compression pistons in it but just converting to fuel injection alone made a tremendous difference.

search for threads discussing megasquirt. Your two easiest upgrades away from the Solex 4A1 is go either go with a Rochester/Holley 4 barrell carb or use a TBI unit under megasquirt.
