Back to Mercedes Again!

Friends, I am back on the forum with another MB, a 2005 E320 with 32k miles, one owner, granite grey.

I am amazed how it "feels" like an "E", going back to my first 1992 E class. I had driven some 96-2000 benzes and they never really felt as solid.

Anything I should check on this car while it has some warranty? Seems mint in every way...any known gremlins?

Great to be back. John

PS

This may well be the most economical of my benzes too, it was $18,000. Great car for the money, these are.

I'd spend $18 on a 24-hour subscription to startekinfo and get a feel for all the DTBs (dealer technical bulletins). These cover known problems and the dealer will fix them as warranty repairs. If anything, you can get the new hose to make SBC a little quieter.

In addition you should think of "I should check" as "I should let the dealer check," i.e pay for an A or B service. At our last one, we got a new auxiliary battery because it didn't pass the test. We had no prior warnings.

Couple problem areas I recall, there was a bolt that was to long/short in the front suspension that caused the car to pull to the right that I belief there was a TSB for (I think this may have been corrected before your car was built). The sensotronic brakes were an issue. Those were the two main issues I recall on my E500. It was a beautiful car but it did have some probs. Hope yours is well sorted. Love to have another one myself.

I am leery of the SBC personally. Maybe exaggerated.

There's more info on the newer chassis Benz models over at mbworld.org. Not so much technical knowledge and DIY as here, but more owners of newer cars. I think all the technical bulletins are posted as well - look in the 211 forum.

I don't get the impression that SBC is problematic, quite the opposite actually. I think it's fairly pointless - technology for the sake of technology - but it seems to work just fine. Have the brake fluid changed if you don't have records of it being done - about $150 at the dealer.

I bought a 2006 211 recently, and it had the auxilliary battery changed at the last service too. I don't even know where it is or what it does...
