Slack in viscous fan coupling...

How much slack should it have? I have no issues with overheating, but I just noticed it had a little slack in it.

For my M103 260E.

Thanks,
Robert

Don't worry about it until it get's to the point where you can actually "wobble" it on it's shaft. You'll have to replace it then as it's at risk at that point of seizing or going the other way and completely failing and then the fan will get real intimate with the radiator. You'll have to monitor it's condition.
Regards, Eric

I would say then I can actually wobble it.
Any ideas how to lock it so it doesn't spin when trying to remove?

Thanks.

There's a special fan removal tool....its like a metal rod with bent ends that locks the fan in place.....I believe it is sold here on the Peachparts special tools listing....

ps2cho, I use an allen wrench to secure the fan while loosening the bolts. Of course, you can always buy the special tool and add to your collection.

probably you will need a new fan-bearing bracket soon......that might be what is causing this.

picked this 2 piece fan tool set from this seller, and well worth the price ~~~ makes short work of getting the fan clutch off with no blood spilled

So I removed it today and the bearing on the fan clutch seemed fine...
...so I put the bolt without the clutch back into the pulley and I could move it around a little bit. I assume this is the problem right? Does this mean the whole pulley needs to be replaced?

when i changed mine, i don't remember the bolt moving around..something is not right obviously, take the pulley off and look for signs of wear in the pulley, or the bearing....
