W124 Trunk Hinge Issue

I have an early build W124 Diesel (3/86 build date) that is a gray market car.

While loading an extra set of wheels / tires into the trunk the other day, I heard a loud pop followed by the trunk lid closing. Closer inspection revealed that the metal tab welded to the underside of the left hinge had sheared off and was laying inside the covered area. The spring was untensioned as it no longer had anything to attach itself to.

Do I need to replace the entire hinge? Or can the tab be rewelded? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.
