PSE problem, central locking system.
Hi,guys. Long time since my last thread, but now my car is getting old and I need some advice. I have an S430, 2001-220170. The PSE pump just melted the other day then blew the fuse. I removed the pump, and the brush plate of the motor was all melted and displaced to one side which got the 12V motor stocked. I managed to make it turn on again after cleaning and trimming the plastic excess of the brush plate but it wont put out the power needed to the specs. and apparently has a high amp consumption. I think that the solenoids (10), circuit board and the pump (not the motor) are in good condition. The question is, can I get a replacement pump only? Can I take the pump out of another used pump and replace the bad one. I am concern about the coding needed if I replace the pump with a new or different one. I don't have the Star Diagnosis software and don't have a clue of who can do this for me other than the dealer $$$$. Suggestions are welcome. Please advice. Thank you.

I had a PSE pump problem on a W202 that was replaced with a PSE pump from a W201. Still working fine 3 yrs. after the swap.

99% of the time a new or used PSE will work without changing any of the coding.

Thank you for your comments
I got the used pump, and although is very different, it is a Hella instead of a Bosch, the 12 V. motor is identical, the bipressure pump is different but it seems to fit in the PSE housing. Today after work, I am going to replace the whole pump and motor and test it. I have to make shure I attach the pressure side and the vacuum side in the correct port at the board. I have a question. Does this pump rotates one way only, or it is reversed depending on the demand? Also, who turns off the pump in case there is a leak (like my close assist vacuum actuator broke once and you could hear a Hisss... sound for several secondsat the driver's door), a timer at the circuit board?
Thank you all for your comment. By mistake I went to another forum and apparently I was talking a language too technical for them. Now I feel at home. Thank you very much. Darrel |

Follow up on this issue
Hi friends. I managed to get another pump from an older model. I just remove the electric motor and vacuum pump assembly and attached it to the old one. It worked for 6 weeks but eventually the electronics burned the 2nd electric motor/pump. I found a used one, same model # 220 008 06 48 in good working condition. Installed it and working properlly except that there is a pulsating sound, like a heart beat in the area of the pump that goes away after a while.
Is that the result of not programming the system to that pump? If that is the problem, how much should I be charged for getting into a shop and have the system programmed? I went to a mechanic today and he said that he cannot tell how much would that be because he does not know if that is the real issue. I think that attaching the computer and reading the codes or fault should have a flat fee cost. Is it costly to get the software and attachments for a do it yourself for this car? Please reply. Thank you. Darrel. |
