Another tranny question, this time about parts (190E)
Hi again.
So, it looks like I'm in the market for a replacement transmission for my wonderful '91 190E 2.6L. I found a deal on Craigslist for one in supposedly decent working condition. The mileage is comparable to those found at the salvage places, and the price is significantly cheaper, $400+ cheaper. The only problem: the transmission is coming out of a '90 300TE (E-class hatchback/wagon). I did some research, and they both have an M103 engine, although I do not know if the 300TE has a 2.6L or a 3.0L, although I suspect it is a 3.0L. I do not know the part numbers on either of these transmissions, nor can I seem to find them. My guess is that they are extremely similar, but not identical??? My questions (this will show my utter newness to working on my car): does anyone one know if this transmission would be a good fit between the two vehicles? Could I obtain this transmission and easily modify it, if necessary? How would I need to modify it? What are the possible future problems associated with this type of switch? Even better: either the part numbers for these trannies, or a reference to look up the part numbers. Thanks^100
