I don't have that car, but from what I have read, you might need to try a new thermostat, or you might need a new fan clutch. It would probably be better if you say what temps the gauge shows. For example, when the temp "is fine" what does the gauge say? 80? 90?, 100?. When it over heats what is the temp then? The electric fan should come on if it is over 110C. If not then it might be a bad fan or temp switch for the fan. Hopefully someone else can give a better answer. Merry Christmas in Haiti.

I think that you're right on the money, Mpolli. AC adds heat to the radiator, and it is important that both fan systems are working as designed. Most likely, one of these is at fault.
If those are good, the problem may be that the radiator passages are calcified due to using hard water in the system. Thermostat would seem unlikely if the engine temperature is well-regulated without the AC running -- but we don't know for sure that it is. |

Make sure you don't have any leaks in the cooling system - even minor.

AN easy way to ck the viscous fan is to get a couple of newspapers, roll them up, then try to stop the fan. But, make sure you know which way the fan turns, so you can lay the newspaper into the fan at an angle (use your head on this, common sense here). If you can stop the fan, the viscous is toast, if you can't it will shred the newspaper and the viscous is ok.

With the big Mercedes like mine, the OIL gauge is always at 3 bar, but often when stopped in traffic or even in very heavy traffic, the gauge is only at 2 bar or 1 1/2 bar, and as soon as you accellerate to a normal speed, it goes back up to 3 bar. So if THAT happens ... nothing is wrong.
The temperature gauge on the 560 normally always hovers around 80 -85 (US car - ) but in heavy traffic, uphill, or with the air conditioning on in heavy traffic, it goes higher, ( 100-105) but when it cools off, no longer long uphill driving, heavy traffic, when it goes back down, so I would not worry. If your thermostat is stuck you should replace it. Can you post a picture of the car? We have (most of us) never seen one of them in Jamaica.
