I have a 98 c230 and the ABS light comes on almost every day and when it is illuminated, the transmission will not shift out of first gear, can anyone help me with this problem?

You could try searching. I found this:

1997 c230 limp home mode help please

You need the dealer or a specialty shop to read the codes you need. Could be a bad sensor. I don't have any experience with that problem though.

Most common issue on that car is the differential speed sensor for the ABS system.

However there are about 75 possible codes that CAN be read from the traction saystem computer 1st.
