Help with alarm: Which cable to pull
It is not enough that my tranny slipped two days ago, but my odometer quit today after i messed with the trip meter. I am a genius i know . So since i am taking out the cluster to fix the odometer, i also want to get rid of my flaky alarm system.
First question: Look at the picture and please tell me which plug to pull to disable the alarm, this is in the passerger are under the carpet.... Second question: Since I have a 1993, i have to jumper a relay behind the cluster (hence the timing for this), which relay and what pins need to be jumpered. I have searched, but unclear on this answer.... Thanks Guys!!! I really need some help on this!!!

The black box to the left, marked Becker is the alarm unit, unplugging it will disable the alarm functions.
With regard to the second question about a relay to jumper, does that have anything to do with the alarm? I don't know of any alarm related relay behind the cluster, just unplugging the connector at the alarm unit usually does the trick! Good Luck! |

I have read that on 1993+, disabling the alram will cause the car not to start...earlier models did not have this security feature....... also, in the picture, are you talking about the plug on the left of the unit on (the left)? what is the other VDO unit for by the way? thanks,

So i pulled the two plugs going into the box on the left...The alarm stopped, but the car would not start. I guess mine has the immobilizer feature after all...
I will need to jumper that relay in the cluster ....

If it's like my car, you have to:
- pull out the instrument cluster - look for the K38 starter interlock on the left side. It's a silver-colored relay, PN 001-542-02-19. - jumper 30 and 87 to deactivate starter interlock

Personally, I'd leave the alarm wiring in and unscrew the wires from the horn. Be sure to tape them. Thx -CTH

I jumpered the relay by wrapping copper wire on each lead pin and connecting them. This way I could still put everything back together.
On my car, the alarm went off whenever it felt like it. I disconnected the horn, but the lights kepts flashing. This left me with a dead battery at the end of the day, and a parking lot full of people wondering if my car was possessed. Go ahead and disconnect the alarm as you planned. |
