E320 Starter not turning inconsistently
Hi all,
I have a 1995 E320 where the starter is not turning consistently. Turn the key and all the appropriate dash lights come on but not click from the solenoid and no starter turning over. Turn the key again and it starts up normally and runs normally. I will be checking the connections to the starter and the solenoid (and ground) but am wondering what would be the smartest thing to check next? Battery is fully charged. Since I am not hearing a click at the solenoid my prime suspect is the positive wire to the solenoid is not a good connection. Is there a safety switch on the auto shift lever which would prevent the starter from turning over if it does not think it is in PARK? Thanks very much, Jim Lee 1995 E320 Wagon |

my car was doing this when the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) was on its way out. I was able to start the car in neutral a few times until that failed to work also. I then bypassed the NSS connector in the car at knee level above the gas pedal until my replacement NSS arrived.
