stripped screws
Just got a 95 s320. The car is in great shape, only problem so far is that the license plate screws will not come out so I can put a new tag on the car. I used vice grips to turn the screws as they had previously been stripped, however the whole metal assembly the screw goes into turns with the screw. Is there any way to get these out short of drilling and retapping? Jayhawk

I think you can remove the panel in the trunk that covers the inside part of the license plate fastener. It can be held with a socket of the correct size so you can remove the outside screws.
