W210 Workshop manual

Trying to find a service manual for a W210. Other than the expensive MB manuals the only one I can find is a book by the Pocket Mechanic Peter Russek. Has anybody used this manual? How does it compare to Bentleys?

Anybody willing to sell/burn a copy of the no longer published DVD by MBUSA?

You might try alldatadiy.com. I believe a yearly subscription is about $100 (?). I have seen several posts by those who have bought various CD's on eBay and they were all unhappy with what they got.

I believe you can get a 1 day subscription on MB's WIS for about $20. Great for one big project as you can download anything relevant. But the annual fee is pretty steep for the average DIYer.

I agree about the MB DVD. It's got to be the most profitable item they sold. I asked at 1-800-FOR MERCedes why it was discontinued and got no meaningful comment. I wonder if the dealers complained that DIYers were eating into their service bay profits.

I got the Mercedes WIS DVD's on Ebay 2 years ago for under $100 and it's money well spent. Forgot from whom but it's like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-Smart-WIS-09-08-EPC-net-07-08-shop-set-EWA_W0QQitemZ330411818963QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Manuals_Literature?hash=item4cee143fd3

After 92 Mb decided they were not going to publish any service info for the general public, other manufacturers and the independent shops complained. The goverment then mandated that the info be made available, I guess they did their part, the DVDs are copy protected so you cant copy them. I called the other day and questioned why they are not updating them for MS 7 and Adobe 9 and was directed to a non existant support web page.

How about the so-called "expensive" factory manual for $18?

Just subscribe for a day to startekinfo and download as much as you want.

(It's nice to have pdf writer software to do this)

Anyone ever get eyes on this ?

http://www.mercedesmanuals.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=rskw210&CartID=1

no meaningful info on the product page. "live support" sucks.

Any chance the title of this thread could be changed to "W210 workshop manual" since its current title is too broad.

My understanding may be "legend," but it's that the print shop for manuals suffered a fire in the early '90s and Mercedes determined not to rebuild but rather to go electronic.

Given the $18/day subscription to WIS, it's pretty easy and inexpensive to download everything you'll ever need. And if you forget something, well it's $36 and that's cheap, too.

You can get the alldatadiy subscription for somewhere around $15-$20 / year. It's basically a copy of the WIS with all TSB's included. For the MB's, I've found it usually has all I need, but not necessarily where I would expect to find it.
Don't forget to check your library too, you'd be surprised to see what some of them spent your money on.
