Hey everyone. Alright... here is the problem. I noticed a little while ago a strange buzzing/whining sound coming from my car. I have isolated it to the region around my back right (if you are looking at the back of the car) wheel. The sound is very similar to the annoying buzz the mercedes generates when you turn off the car... leave your lights on... and open the door. It only happens when the car is on... and is accompanied by a whoosing sound of air, which im guessing is just the sound of the engine exhaust going through the exhaust system. I have a 1992 w124 300E btw... So then... anyone know what is causing the sound... and is it a bad thing? Thanks.

Possibly the fuel pumps - that is where they are located on my 87 300E. You might search the archives for fuel pump info as I think previous posters have referred to a buzzing sound from a marginal fuel pump(s).

do you guys think the sound is just the pump turbine whine? Does anyone's elses' benz exhibit this whining sound?

The sound you hear is your fuel pump mainly the check valve ball rattling in it's housing. Not to worry unless the sound stops, where by the pump has stopped pumping as well. If you turn your ignition key to position 2 without starting, you'll probably start hearing that sound for a few seconds before the line pressurizes.
