'95 e320 Sudden Driveline Shudder
I've got a driveline shudder when under power. The car drives smooth as silk as long as I'm not on the gas, but as soon as I give it any power, there's a shudder and grumble from the driveline somewhere. It sounds like it's coming from the back end.
It was worst when it first started. I was doing about 70 when it suddenly sounded like I had a motorcycle in my rear right blindspot, but it was coming from the car, and I could feel the shudder in the gearshift. It faded and went away entirely over the next 1/2 mile, but returned a shortly, and is now bad enough that it seems risky to drive it. -Dirk R |

Sounds like a bad flex disc.
I would not drive it in this condition.

(Edit)
I come from a Detroit world, so I had no idea about what a flex disk is. I'll check it out, look for cracks, and order it up if there are any. Thanks. -Dirk R (Edit) Last edited by drokicki; 03-28-2010 at 03:35 PM. |

You have two flex discs, one on each side of the drive shaft.
Check out this link for a detailed description and pictures: http://www.dieselgiant.com/Mercedes%20flex%20disc%20failure.htm

Check the front flex disc, that is usually the one that fails most often.
