38 pin Diagnostic connector partial wiring
on my 96 SL 500 not all the pins are wired on the diagnostic connector. Only 11 out of 38 have sockets?? Pins wired are 1,2,3,4,6,10,11,13,21,23,30. Since pin 7 has the electronic accelerator this will make troubleshooting th EA very difficult. I have ABS & ASR lights on rough idle with occasional cut out stalling at idle warm only. Sound like a EA since 96 cars have the good wire harness,.But this is an expensive part to throw at a car for troubleshooting purpouses? any sugestions? I do not think the LED code reader works on 38 pin cars. Thanx John.

John,
To start with, the 1996 SL500 doesn't have an EA/CC/ISC computer. It is integrated into the fuel system computer, ME (motor electronics). Any ABS/ASR issue would be diagnosed thru the traction system computer. And you are correct, the old analog LED blink light doesn't work on that model.

Thanx MB DOC ,Thats what I thought, Maybe one of those multiplexers on e bay will work. They run between $100 and $200 and hook to a lap top. they supposedly look at stuff OBDII does not. I have seen used EA,s on ebay for $300 also. I hate throwing parts at stuff! I will make good use of the diagnostic multiplexer though.
