AC / expansion valve which way?

83 380 SEL, the AC expansion valve is located above the gas pedal. I did not pay attention when I took the old one off. Is there an upside down and right side up or does it matter. It will fit either way. There are numbers on one side, Should the numbers be facing out the firewall or driver seat?
Thanks!

PS/ I know this is about as close as I can get to a stupid question, but that's where I"m at.

It fits either way??
The suction lines should be smaller, no?

Anyway from what I remember the temp/pressure sensor should be on the right side looking at it installed.

follow the holes, Luke

I think if you tried to put it together, you'd find out as you tried to screw it together.

For post 1984 models to 1995, the side of the expansion valve with two small holes (not the holes the lines fit into) faces the evaporator lines. The face with three small holes faces the lines to the compressor. If you try it the other way, there is no way to secure the locking plate on the lines to engine side.

Hope that helps- those are the only MB cars I know anything about!

OK, it looks right

OK, I don't know why I didn't see this before. The small line coming from the dryer comes in on the bottom right, there is an arrow there pointing up (I assume that indicates the proper flow directin) the larger line comes in on the bottom left and goes out to the compressor, there is an arrow there pointing down indicating flow should go back out to the compressor. If the arrows are there to indicate the flow direction this should be on properly.
I guess I answered my own question. Sorry.
