Blower motor "Switch" replacement
I have a 1988 190E 2.3 4 cylinder Mercedes
The blower motor fan "switch", located on the dashboard, is bad. How do I replace the switch. I'm not able to figure out how to get to it to remove it and reinstall the new switch. thanks, jb |

Hi,it has been a long time since I've had one apart but I think you have to drop the portion of the dash with the switch in it to gain access. There should be two screws at the bottom hidden behind the ashtray and two screws at the top hidden by the center dash vents. You may have to pull the center vent nozzles out using a hooked tool ( caution, the little spring that tensions the nozzle will probably break off ). Once that portion of the dash is down the wood trim around the switch has to be pulled off using a hooked tool ( caution, the wood may crack or break ). Once the wood is off there should be two screws holding the switch in place. I know this seems like alot of steps but it should only take a few minutes.
Good luck, Robert.

1988 Mercedes 190E 2.3 Blower Motor Switch
Thanks for the directions. I'm a little confused about the middle vents. I took the actual vents out and unscrewed the screws that hold the dash in place. When I tried to pull it out and gain access to the switch below, I noticed that the dash piece that holds the vents is connected to the vent system for the car. It looks like a single small pin connects it all. If I pull the pin out will it allow me to remove the dash vent piece and reach down and access the switch? I tried to pull the 1" long pin out and could not get it to budge. I was concerned about tampering with it any more. Any thoughts?

1988 Mercedes 190E 2.3
I took the car to a Mercedes dealership and they told me its bad. In addition, the switch only moves the the right 2 stops(speeds) and it has 4 stops(speeds)

The Mercedes dealership wanted $300 to replace the switch. That seemed a bit much.
